Women Empowerment

A research done by United Nations and Kenya National Bureau of Statistics in 2020 showed that 29% of women in Kenya are considered empowered. At Dear Diary Initiative Kenya, we believe that an “empowered women, empower the world”. Women’s empowerment is a diverse procedure involving enhancement of women’s sense of dignity, their capacity to make choices and decisions that shape their lives. For us, financial independence is the fundamental principle of women’s empowerment.

Our focus on women empowerment paves way for sustainable approaches which are significant for addressing several inequalities women face. This includes addressing the root causes that hinders women empowerment in respective communities (for example the lack of access to education, early marriage, disability, period poverty among others and coming up with relevant inclusive solutions.

Through partnership and collaboration we have been abled to donate sewing machines and overlock machines to women from different parts of the country where women earn income through tailoring. We have also supported some women to start small business such as opening for them canteens commonly known as “Kibanda/hoteli”.
